Fans Brand Disney+ Making Documentary on Wakanda Forever’s Music To Gain More Subscribers as ‘Unethical’

Disney has unveiled an upcoming documentary series, titled Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever, which will delve into the musical elements of the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ on February 22nd, 2023. However, some fans of the movie have branded this move as “unethical,” claiming that Disney+ is milking the popularity of Black Panther to gain more subscribers.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever addresses a pivotal turning point for the kingdom of Wakanda, as they are forced to confront the sudden and tragic loss of their beloved leader, T’Challa, portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman. With Wakanda in turmoil, the film follows the valiant efforts of Princess Shuri, Queen Ramonda, spy Nakia, and general Okoye as they strive to preserve their nation and fend off outside invaders, including those from the underwater society of Talokan, led by Namor, portrayed by Tenoch Huerta.

As the characters navigate the aftermath of T’Challa’s death, they are forced to confront the weight of their inheritance and the responsibility of carrying on his legacy, imbuing the film with a more contemplative and somber tone, in contrast to the celebratory spirit of the original.

The film’s soundtrack follows in lockstep, trading the fireworks and scope of the Kendrick Lamar and TDE-led Black Panther The Album from 2018, for something more intimate but no less devoted to intercultural exchange.

Voices Rising: The Music Of Wakanda Forever Coming Soon To Disney+

Voices Rising will feature interviews with the cast and crew, including director Ryan Coogler and producers Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, as well as the composers, music artists, and sound engineers who worked on the movie. It will also showcase an original score from Ludwig Göransson, in addition to original music on the soundtrack such as Tems’ cover of Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry and Rihanna’s Born Again. Also on the soundtrack are several incorporated songs performed by an array of international artists from South Africa, Mexico and Nigeria, notably Burna Boy, Snow Tha Product, E-40, Stormzy, Fireboy DML, Tobe Nwigwe, Future, PinkPantheress and several others.

Set to premiere on Disney+, the documentary is an ambitious project that could potentially lead to more subscribers for the streaming service.

The reaction from fans

Fans of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have had a mixed reaction to Disney+ releasing a documentary about the making of the music for the movie. A segment of Marvel fans have branded this move as “unethical,” claiming that Disney+ is milking the popularity of Black Panther to gain more subscribers. An user expressed his disagreement to the sountrack being that impressive.

Another user thought the soundtrack was amazing but was not impressed by the movie itself
