LeBron James achieves unprecedented milestone for players age 35-plus

Another calendar year has dawned upon the NBA, but some things have remained the same year after year.

Fish continue to swim. Birds continue to fly. Waves continue to pound the sand. And LeBron James continues to play at an elite level, even after turning 38 years of age.

On Dec. 30, his 38th birthday, he had 47 points on 18-of-27 shooting, 10 rebounds and nine assists as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Atlanta Hawks, 130-121.

On Monday, he was at it again, posting 43 points on 16-of-26 shooting plus 11 boards and six dimes in a 121-115 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

It meant James had accomplished something no NBA player of at least 35 years of age had ever done – put up consecutive 40-point, 10-rebound performances.

The most important thing about James’ stellar play of late is Los Angeles has won three of its last four games while finishing 3-2 on its five-game road trip.

The team returns home to host the Miami Heat on Wednesday and the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. The injured Anthony Davis said he will get imaging on his injured foot upon returning home, so perhaps there will also be some good news on that front sometime in the coming days.
