Marvel May Have Already Spoiled One Of Secret Invasion’s Big Twists

Before Secret Invasion premieres on Disney+, Marvel Studios may have secretly spoiled the biggest MCU twist in the Samuel L. Jackson-led series.

Marvel Studios may have already spoiled one of Secret Invasion‘s biggest twists. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is set to make his proper Marvel Cinematic Universe return via the upcoming Disney+ series. Unlike many of the Multiverse Saga’s recent projects that deal with alternate realities or are set in the cosmos, Secret Invasion will be a more grounded narrative that is more of a paranoia thriller. In the show, Fury comes back Earth to team up with his long-time ally, Talos the Skrull, as they attempt to stop a faction of the shape-shifting aliens from quietly taking over Earth.

Plot specifics of Secret Invasion are still under wraps, but as Marvel Studios begin to actively promote the project, new information about the project comes to light. Fury’s latest crisis stems from his and Carol Danvers’ failure to deliver on their promise to find the Skrulls a suitable home planet three decades ago in Captain Marvel. The events of Secret Invasion are also confirmed to serve as the launching pad for what happens in Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels. It’s still uncertain how the series ties to other Multiverse Saga projects beyond that. However, its connection to Julius Onah’s Captain America: New World Order may have just been spoiled.

Aside from Fury and Talos, Secret Invasion will also see other familiar MCU faces, including Don Cheadle’s James “Rhodey” Rhodes. Per Empire Magazine’s feature, Rhodey revisits his political ties by working together with Dermot Mulroney’s US President Ritson in the new Marvel Disney+ series. More than the nature of his work, however, it’s the confirmation of Mulroney’s long-rumored role that is particularly important to the MCU’s future. Previously, Kevin Feige revealed that Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross will be the United States president in Captain America: New World Order. This essentially means that Ritson will likely be a Skrull in Secret Invasion.

For context, the MCU’s last known American president was Matthew Ellis played by William Sadler. The character was prominently featured in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. He also had a cameo in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Much has happened in the MCU since then, however, so it makes sense that America has a new leader. Not much is revealed about Ritson, but set images from Secret Invasion reveal him representing the country during some kind of emergency talks in London.

Will Secret Invasion Reveal The U.S. President Is A Skrull?

Marvel Studios remains coy about the timeline details of the new Disney+ series. It’s still possible that Ritson is simply replaced by Ross as the American president after a scheduled election. That being said, Ritson being a Skrull makes more sense in terms of Secret Invasion‘s story. The fact that one of the most important jobs in the world has been secured by a Skrull emphasizes just how far the shapeshifting aliens have come with regard to infiltrating Earth. Fury and Rhodey’s tense conversation in the first Secret Invasion trailer suggests, however, that there are more Skrulls holding high-profile jobs that are on Ritson’s scheme.
