One Piece’s 8 Weakest Pirate Crews

The world of One Piece is filled with formidable pirates, but some of the crews on the seas aren’t so threatening.

The cast of One Piece, a beloved manga and anime franchise, is varied and interesting, and it includes formidable pirate crews that rule the seven seas. However, that not every pirate gang in the One Piece universe is the same in terms of strength. Some pirate crews are not as formidable as others. Many other pirate crews look down on these crews and make fun of them, making it hard for them to gain respect. Despite this, these underpowered pirate crews each have their own charming qualities that make them popular favorites.

Now, it’s time to dive into the backgrounds, motives, and personalities of some of the One Piece franchise’s weakest pirate crews. The obstacles they have to overcome and their interactions with the other characters make them interesting despite their relative lack of strength. Here’s what makes these weak pirate crews a captivating aspect of the One Piece universe, for both long-time fans of the series and newcomers to the world of pirates and treasure-seeking.

8. Black Cat Pirate Crew

The Black Cat Crew is among the first groups of pirates the Straw Hats encounter. Their seeming strength came from Captain Kuro’s incredible speed. But as the episodes have progressed, it’s become clear that this team was average at best.

Against users of the Logia-type Devil Fruit, Kuro’s speed would be useless. Also, only three of their pirate mates were any good at combat. It’s no surprise that the Black Cat Pirates vanish following their defeat at the hands of the Straw Hats.

7. Alvida’s Crew

Since this is Luffy’s first encounter with a pirate crew, it stands to reason that Alvida’s crew would be rather ineffective, to show the contrast of Luffy’s strength. Alvida’s crew is shocked to see Luffy knock her out with a single blow.

Though Alvida may have intended for her crew to fear her, this strategy backfires spectacularly when they are unable to rally behind her in combat. Alvida doesn’t gain much strength by eating a Devil Fruit, hence she and her team don’t get much screen time.

6. Buggy’s Crew

Even if Buggy the Clown has risen to prominence in One Piece, it doesn’t imply he’s supported by a formidable crew in battle. Members of his team are revealed to be fairly dim, prompting Buggy to continuously admonish them.

Buggy’s isolation from his friends is the only thing that has allowed him to mature as a person, which shows how much they were holding him back before. The inmates that choose to side with Buggy aren’t much more powerful than his previous crew members, but they do appear to be better at obeying commands.

5. Arlong’s Crew

Truth be told, Arlong’s crew isn’t the weakest crew that the Straw Hats face. Though Arlong is infamously evil, he has been able to consolidate authority on Conomi Island because regular people are helpless against a Fishman’s superior strength.

Considering how quickly Luffy is able to overcome Arlong, it’s clear that Arlong and the members of his crew depended more on exploiting individuals who were inferior to them than on brute force. Defeating Arlong’s crew would have happened much more quickly if Luffy hadn’t had cement attached to his feet and been taken out of the battle for a few episodes.

4. The Imitators Of Real Straw Hats

Those that try to capitalize on the good names of others are the lowest of the low. Following the time jump, a band of pirates attempts to capitalize on the fame of the Straw Hats by disguising themselves as members of that outfit.

Although not very powerful, Buggy Crew and the Black Cat crewmembers at least put the effort to establish a name for themselves. Black, who has assumed the identity of Luffy, plans to rule the New World by enlisting the help of others. It’s no surprise that the majority of the impostors were caught; they clearly lacked the physical fortitude to flee without assistance.

3. Don Krieg’s Crew

The fact that Don Krieg is more known than any of his fellow pirate mates is a testament to Krieg’s own strength, not to the crew’s. Even though he had control over more than fifty pirate vessels, not a single one of them helped him defeat Luffy.

When considering that Don Krieg could only strike back against Luffy using trickery and underhanded techniques, it’s easy to see that he is not all that powerful. His group of pirates could be the worst in all of One Piece.

2. The Rumbar Pirates

It’s clear that Brook became the powerful part of the Straw Hat crew he is now after facing death for the first time. When Brook and his crew are slain, he is compelled to employ the Devil Fruit’s abilities to bring himself back to life.

A team of singers had no justification for venturing into the Grand Line, and their deaths are terrible but understandable. Their lack of physical fortitude ensured their doom on the journey.

1. Bellamy’s Pirates

This pirate crew is a strong-minded group, which is hilarious given how weak this crew is. They were able to secure a stronghold in Mock Town; however, in combat, they relied on their most formidable mates.

However, even their most powerful individuals are not very strong. Because Bellamy leaned excessively on his Devil Fruit abilities, Luffy is able to defeat him with a glancing blow. It is hardly surprising that the remaining Bellamy Pirates declined to engage the Straw Hats after their captain was annihilated.
