10 Best Romances In The MCU

Like many films and franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe wouldn’t be complete without romances. Behind every hero is a love interest who inspires, encourages, and motivates them to be the best version of themselves. Some of these relationships may end, but their impact on the MCU never wavers, even as these fan-favorite combinations come and go.

Although they don’t always last, the relationships in the MCU are a staple in the various films and series. Where would Steve Rogers be without the support of Peggy Carter? Who would have Tony Stark become if he didn’t have Pepper Potts at his side? These questions are a testament to the importance of the characters’ relationships, and how they continue to impact the many films and series in the franchise.

10/10 Peter Quill And Gamora Come From Completely Different Worlds

As the daughter of Thanos, Gamora is taught to prioritize her mission and to take everything seriously. When she first meets her future teammates in Guardians of the Galaxy, she is a far cry from their tendencies to joke, cheat the system, and take things as they come. Peter Quill adds to this chaos, as he is more focused on double-crossing the Ravagers to deepen his pockets.

Peter and Gamora couldn’t be farther apart, but as time goes on, they begin to bring out the best in each other. Gamora encourages Quill to be more responsible in his leadership role, while Peter encourages Gamora to let loose and be herself.

9/10 Jennifer Walters And Matt Murdock Are A Fun And Wholesome Fling

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is filled with cameos. Wong, Bruce Banner, and Emil Blonsky all make appearances throughout the show, but few were as thrilling to see as Daredevils’ Matt Murdock. The attorney from Hell’s Kitchen immediately hits it off with Jennifer when they meet on opposing sides of the courtroom.

As they are both superheroes who work in law, it was only natural that they team up. As a result, a genuine friendship grows between them, full of soft-hearted jokes and on-screen chemistry. Fans were thrilled to see Jennifer and Matt come together, as they created a new and wholesome dynamic for MCU fans to enjoy.

8/10 Doctor Strange And Christine Were Doomed From The Start

Fans are introduced to Doctor Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange. She’s Stephen Strange’s former partner, and it’s clear early on that their relationship may not have ended on the best of terms. This couple is one of the most unpredictable in the MCU, but they appear to be on better terms by the end of the first film.

However, this changes after Strange is blipped, and Christine moves on during the five years he is gone. Their relationship is revisited in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when Strange reveals that he will always love her. Although their relationship can’t be rekindled in his universe, the pair will always care for one another.

7/10 Edwin Jarvis And Ana Have The Perfect Marriage

Edwin Jarvis is introduced as a main character in Agent Carter, alongside his wife, Ana. While many would say that no marriage is perfect, these two characters seem to be in a very happy relationship. Jarvis is seen a few times in the MCU and is the influence behind the original AI that Tony Stark uses in his suits. Ana is hardly talked about, despite how much they cherish one another.

In Agent Carter, Jarvis often hesitates to help Peggy, as he prioritizes his wife’s needs. It is also revealed that he gives up his military career to be with his wife, and it’s not something he regrets. Likewise, Ana supports her husband’s endeavors to help Agent Carter, making them equally caring and supportive.

6/10 Peter And MJ Are Wholesome And Supportive

Peter Parker joins the MCU later than many other iconic heroes, but he bonds quickly with everyone around him. This turns his friendship with MJ, which is first seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming, into a budding relationship that grows throughout multiple films. MJ eventually learns that Peter is Spider-Man, making her one of the few people the teenage hero can depend on.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter reveals that there was only one week that he felt normal, and it was after MJ learned his secret. Both MJ and Peter learn to depend on one another and serve as a place of calm during danger, change, and loss.

5/10 Steve Rogers And Peggy Carter Beat The Odds

The relationship between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter is introduced early on in Captain America: The First Avenger. The film details Steve’s origins as Captain America, which includes his budding relationship with Peggy. Their romance is short-lived, as Steve ends up frozen in ice and is only awoken decades later.

Despite having a new life in the modern day, Steve never gets over the woman he left behind. His love for her causes him to use Tony’s time travel technology in Avengers: Endgame, which he uses to go back and spend an entire life with Peggy. He leaves behind his heroics and new friends to do so, but when he is seen again as an older man, he seems more than happy.

4/10 Thor And Jane Stand Against The Test Of Time

Thor comes to love Jane Foster after they meet in Thor and reconnect in Thor: The Dark World. Although Thor tries to stay with Jane on Earth, their relationship does not last, and the pair end up spending many years apart. Thor never stops caring for Jane, and their old love rekindles again when they meet in Thor: Love and Thunder.

While Thor and Jane’s love for one another can stand the test of time, their renewed relationship is unable to last because of Jane’s illness. When she can no longer harness the power of Mjölnir to keep herself healthy, Thor proves his love by staying by her side until the very end.

3/10 Clint Barton And Laura Shared A Similar Lifestyle

Many heroes in the MCU find relationships with people outside their field. This isn’t the case with Clint and Laura Barton, however, because they are both former operatives of S.H.I.E.L.D. While Laura retires to take care of their family, she still understands what it is like for Clint when he puts his life on the line.

In Hawkeye, Clint often defers to Laura’s opinion before he makes a decision. This shows the amount of trust they have for one another, which only grows when Laura entrusts Clint to retrieve her stolen watch. The watch could have revealed her information to their enemies had it fallen into the wrong hands.

2/10 Tony Stark And Pepper Potts Were Made To Last

Tony and Pepper have been through a lot together. Their relationship has had its ups and downs, but they’ve also survived intergalactic invasions and full-scale wars. This couple is built to last, and when Pepper is the last one to speak to Tony before his death in Avengers: Endgame, they are solidified as one of the best MCU pairings.

Pepper may have disapproved of Tony’s heroics at times, but she understood that he is unable to rest when the world needs him. Their relationship helps to shape the MCU, and their love for one another will continue through their daughter, Morgan.

1/10 Wanda And Vision Leave Everything Behind

Wanda and Vision’s relationship develops throughout multiple films. By the time Avengers: Infinity War comes around, they are willing to leave their lives behind to stay together. This plan comes to a halt when Thanos begins his assault on Earth, and they join the other Avengers in an attempt to stop him.

After Vision loses his life and can’t be restored, Wanda sacrifices her own life in favor of an artificial one. She creates the Hex, so the pair can live out the perfect life together in Westview. While her spell doesn’t last throughout WandaVision, it is a testament to how much they love one another.
