His ‘dad bod’ went viral a year ago when he went shirtless during a trip to Florida.

And Vin Diesel, 49, has revealed that the incident made him understand the issue of body shaming.

‘Well, I was a new dad and that was my bod. That stupid episode gave me an idea of how bad body shaming can be.’

At the time, the movie star admitted he was able to brush off the negative comments because his usually ripped physique has been praised for years, declaring:

‘I’m okay because I’ve had the best body in New York City for decades.’

While he delights his social media fans with his singing videos, which have also gone viral, Vin says he holds back a lot of aspects of his life from his fans:

‘I’m an old-school Hollywood guy – like Harrison Ford or even Brando – who doesn’t want my private life out there in certain ways,’ he says.

Recently, he’s been busy working hard in the gym for a number of upcoming big screen roles, including xXx: Return of Xander Cage, but Vin admits that he does slow down his regime when he’s not appearing on screen, explaining to Men’s Health:

‘I work out less and enjoy it more these days. It’s a time in my week where I don’t have to juggle things. I can just exercise and be present in that.’

And he never takes his diet to extremes, adding: ‘When I play Dominic in Fast, I want to look strong but authentic – not buff. But I never juiced – no effing way.’

The interview also sees the actor open up on the loss of his Fast & Furious co-star and friend Paul Walker, who died three years ago. Vin paid tribute to his close friend when naming his baby daughter Pauline, and admits his little girl is a reminder of his friend.

‘I think about him every day. I think about him every time I look at my daughter.’

‘I have to process the loss of a brother and I also have to help millions of people process the loss of the most famous on-screen brotherhood in a generation, maybe forever,’ he explains.
