Manchester United split over De Gea’s future

While Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag publicly backed David De Gea after the goalkeeper’s mistake in the defeat to West Ham, the club’s senior figures have a different view. According to the Daily Mirror (England), the Red Devils leadership is apprehensive about continuing to keep De Gea after he made four mistakes that directly led to the team’s goals this season.

De Gea’s contract expires this summer and Manchester United are currently in talks over a new deal – but only if the Spaniard is willing to significantly reduce his current £375,000-a-week salary. Manchester United want De Gea to accept a new contract worth around £200,000 a week, but after his latest mistake, some at the club are questioning the wisdom of extending his contract, even when wages have been significantly reduced.
