Real Madrid Forward Wanted By Manchester United: Should Ancelotti Sanction His Exit?

Marco Asensio

According to a report from Mirror, it was mentioned that Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio is being targeted by Manchester United as they remain keen on bringing him to Old Trafford this summer. It was also stated that Los Blancos’ Boss Carlo Ancelotti has given the Red Devils a significant boost in their hopes of signing him as he reportedly admitted that he doesn’t care if Asensio wants to exit at the end of this season.

Marco Asensio’s Numbers For Real Madrid

Marco Asensio has made 268 appearances for Los Blancos, having scored 51 goals across all competitions so far. Even in the last term, he managed to put up some impressive numbers on the board – averaging 2.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Spanish top flight (calculated across 38 appearances), grabbing 11 goals and 2 assists on all fronts. The Real Madrid man seemed to have recaptured his form prior to his ACL injury which had ruled him out for the 2019/20 season.

However, in the current season, the Spaniard has only come on the pitch as an impact substitute where he has found the back of the net on five occasions and created four assists in 22 appearances so far.  He has averaged 1.5 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in La Liga and has distributed the ball accurately based on his pass completion rate of 89.8% in league football (stats via Whoscored).Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

Should Ancelotti Sanction His Exit?

Asensio excels at creating space for himself and is not afraid to take a shot at a goal from long range. He can also chip in with a few assists producing meaningful chances for his teammates in the attacking third.

The 27-year-old is primarily a right-winger but remains capable of playing as a central midfielder, which showcases his versatility in proficiently adding significant firepower to the attacking front.

The added lure of Champions League experience makes him a decent option for any club interested in his services. However, Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that his services are not required at Santiago Bernabeu which poses a significant threat to Asensio’s position at the club, hence he would be better off leaving the Spanish giants and playing elsewhere.
